Based on the sketches I made earlier, now with color!! So this took longer than I expected, but I went with the big Polar leopard! She just looked so sweet and precious. But I gave her a short tail instead of a long one.
I tried my best to make Kaori original, and make her look different from Katara and Korra. But all waterbenders look the same! They're so hard to be creative with. I did so much research and I studied main and background characters. So this was the best I could do.. It's normal for people from water tribe to have K and AW sounds in their names, so now you know why all water benders sound so alike! yays.
Mizu is just based on my love for big cuddly animals whom also can be used as transport! I wanted something adorable and believable canon-ish, and Sokka once mentioned having a pair of Polar leopard boots- so ta-da!
Nationality: Southern Water Tribe
Psychical traits: slim with regular musculature(no Korra man strength ! haha), agile, light on her toes, tiny.
Personality: sweet and friendly, she talks way too much way too often and she lacks basic feminine traits and etiquette. She can get very sarcastic and likes to poke fun at people.
Flaws and skills:
She is a rather skilled waterbender and can't imagine life without her bending, living in a small tribe at the south pole it's necessarily for survival. She never bothered to learn healing properly because she found it too hard and boring.
She is very agile and light on her feet, which combines in a interesting way with her bending. In combat she looks more like dancing air bender than a sturdy water bender.
She is totally helpless if she can't move her arms and if she is incapable of bending. which is why she wears a waterskin .
She comes from a tiny tribe far away from any other civilization on the south pole. Her father was the tribe chief who was left by her nonbending mother from the earth kingdom who wanted to go back to Ba Sing Se. It had little influence on Kaori who never really got to know her and had a stronger relationship with her father.
Her father always wanted a son to take over the role as chief when he passed, but he only got a daughter. At first he was angered by the girl he was given, but as she grew his love did too. And instead of keep complaining to the moon spirits about the lack of a son he decided to raise his daughter as one. It never bothered Kaori, her father also called her only by Kao- because it was more manly.
Kaori liked living a boys life and being taught fighting, hunting and bending with the 'other' boys in the tribe. People in the tribe also saw her as a boy, and she looked like one. It wasn't before Kaori reached her teens and went on her first trip to the earth kingdom she realized she was not like the other boys. She slightly turned more feminine in her style but kept her tomboyish personality and interests.
One of the reasons she decided to embrace her feminine part was because she broke a girls heart. As everyone else her childhood best friend thought she was a boy. In their early teens Kaori always felt weird because she didn't feel the same way about girls as the boys did, in fact she felt that way about the boys. Her best friend, a year younger non bending girl, developed a crush on her and confronted Kaori with her feelings. Unfortunately Kaori didn't feel the same way, and some time later her best friend had to move away to republic city with her family.
fuck I can go on forever
She met Mizu as a child when fishing outside alone. She was far away from the tribe on a kind of test her father had for her. It was about surviving for a x amount of time on her own without water bending. It's not really important why, the point is that she was fishing without any luck. She was hungry and tired, then she finally got something. A big juicy fish popped out of the hole in the ice and Kaori jumped in happiness. Before she could enjoy the moment any further a tiny Polar leopard cub jumped up and stole her dinner. It was thin and tiny and looked as hungry as her. Kaori was just a child in the end, and started to cry as the hunger growled. The Polar leopard felt bad and gave her the rest of the fish. Since Polar leopard cubs are never alone, she figured it was orphaned somehow and slowly but surely they became the greatest of friends by the time her quest was over.
She brought it home to the tribe, her fathered was furious about it and wanted to kill it. But Kaori didn't give in and in the end she got to keep it if she could guarantee everyone's safety and provide herself for food for the beast. ( It was still small, her fathered was worried about it growing up to a man eater. ) She is not the first to tame a polar leopard though, only in her tribe. They're very friendly and naive as cubs.
fucking hell I'll stop now before someone gets a heart attack from all this text.
